The Power of Green,
Biofuel is the fuel of the future. It is clean, renewable and can be easily integrated into the current petroleum infrastructure. Existing diesel engines need no modifications to burn it and it can be safely blended with petroleum diesel in any ratio. Any vegetable oil can be used such as soy, corn or walnut oil and also the grease in restaurant kitchens. The use of biofuel substantially reduces unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and particulate matter compared to emissions from petroleum based diesel fuel. Sulfur oxides and sulfates (major components of acid rain) are essentially eliminated. Indeed the overall smog forming potential from biofuel is nearly 50 percent less than conventional diesel fuel.
Biofuel is the fuel produced from biological resources such as plants. It’s a renewable energy source unlike other natural resources such as petroleum, coal, and nuclear fuels. One advantage of biofuel over most other fuel types is that it is biodegradable, and so relatively harmless to the environment if spilled. The main advantage of using vegetable oil based fuels instead of fossil fuels is that vegetable oil is renewable and better for the environment. Specifically, vegetable oil fuels are sustainable and carbon neutral. Burning straight vegetable oil as fuel, is considered carbon neutral because any carbon dioxide emitted was absorbed by the plant during its growing process and counterbalances the emitted CO2.
